Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: red raspberry leaf extract at 1,000 mg per serving. The liquid also includes vegetable glycerin, purified water, and 12–15% certified organic alcohol as inactive ingredients.

No specific claim
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
General wellness

This Red Raspberry product is marketed for general wellness, not a specific health condition, so there's no single claim to grade — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets general wellness (“Promotes digestive health”), not a specific health condition, so there is no single claim to grade against clinical-evidence data.

The evidence we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate red raspberry for aging skin, heart disease, respiratory infections, heart failure, or diabetes. That means the data doesn't yet support a specific claim for any of these uses — not that it doesn't work, just that the research isn't settled.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry fruit and leaf are generally well tolerated, though safety data is limited. The most common side effects from the leaf are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and stomach pain, though these don't typically happen at standard doses.

One case of occupational asthma from inhaling red raspberry powder has been reported. Red raspberry is listed as likely safe or possibly safe in pregnancy, but safety isn't well established — use only under your provider's guidance if you're pregnant.

There isn't enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula marketed for general wellness rather than one specific gradeable purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Red raspberry leaf extract may be worth considering if you're looking for a traditional herbal supplement, but it does interact with blood thinners and insulin — two serious medication classes. If you take either of those, or any other prescription drugs, clear it with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.

Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
