Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: red raspberry leaf glycerite liquid extract, a concentrated form of red raspberry leaf in a base of glycerin and vanilla flavor. Red raspberry leaf is the leaves of the raspberry plant, used traditionally in herbal practice.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Red Raspberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that red raspberry leaf works for aging skin, cardiovascular disease, respiratory tract infections, congestive heart failure, or diabetes. The data we have shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these uses.

If you're considering it for one of these purposes, that's worth discussing with your doctor.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry leaf is generally well tolerated by most adults, though safety data overall is limited. The most common side effects from the leaf itself are mild—gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, and upper stomach pain—but these don't typically show up at normal doses.

One rare case of occupational asthma from inhaling raspberry powder was reported, though that's not a concern with this oral liquid. During pregnancy, red raspberry leaf has been used late in pregnancy by many people, but safety is not well established, so use only under your doctor's guidance.

Safety while breastfeeding isn't well documented—there isn't enough data to know either way, so talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're breastfeeding.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Red Raspberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 135 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel)—red raspberry leaf may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you're on insulin or other diabetes medications, as the leaf may lower blood sugar and change how much medication you need.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
