Red Raspberry Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herb Stop
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Red Raspberry against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: red raspberry leaf. Red raspberry is a plant commonly used in herbal medicine, and this supplement delivers it in capsule form for easy dosing.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients—hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a capsule material) and purified water.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold does not establish that red raspberry works for aging skin, heart disease, respiratory infections, heart failure, or diabetes. The effectiveness ratings for these uses are all insufficient, meaning the data isn't strong enough right now to say whether it helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Red raspberry fruit and leaf are generally well tolerated by most adults, though safety data is limited. The most common side effects with the leaf are diarrhea, upset stomach, and epigastric pain (pain in the upper abdomen)—but these don't typically happen at standard doses.
One case of occupational asthma from inhaling raspberry powder has been reported, with wheezing and shortness of breath. In pregnancy, red raspberry carries mixed ratings—some data suggest it's likely safe, others say possibly safe, and some indicate it may be unsafe.
Because the safety evidence isn't well established, especially for pregnancy, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether to use it if you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant. There isn't enough reliable information to know whether it's safe while breastfeeding, so discuss that with your healthcare provider too.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product if you take anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners and anti-clotting medications like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel)—red raspberry may increase bleeding risk. Also confirm with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on insulin, since red raspberry leaf may lower your blood sugar.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Red Raspberry by Herb Stop may be worth considering if you're interested in herbal supplements, but the evidence for its intended uses isn't established yet. If you take blood thinners or insulin, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it—the interactions here are real concerns.

Red Raspberry by Herb Stop Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herb Stop's Red Raspberry has documented interactions with two medication categories.
The most serious concern is with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners and anti-clotting medications) — red raspberry leaf may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though this hasn't been reported in humans. Lab research shows the leaf extract can thin blood and enhance the effects of antiplatelet medications like cangrelor.

Red raspberry leaf may also lower blood sugar levels in people taking insulin. A case report described one patient with gestational diabetes who developed low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) after drinking two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for three days while on insulin.
Altogether, these interactions span 135 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, run your current medications through the checker below—especially if you take blood thinners or insulin.

Red Raspberry
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking red raspberry leaf with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Insulin
Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
