Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated in adults, though mild side effects can occur — the most common are abdominal pain, constipation, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, stuffy nose, and vomiting. Rarely, heart-related effects like high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, or chest pain have been reported.

One person developed a skin rash with blisters a few days after starting it; the rash cleared when they stopped but came back when they tried it again. Don't use this during pregnancy — it may affect hormones and there isn't enough safety data.

Also avoid it while breastfeeding because we don't know enough about its safety in that situation.
