Here's the gist for anyone pairing saw palmetto with anagrelide (Agrylin). Anagrelide already lowers your platelet count, and it has a mild effect that makes platelets stick together less well. Saw palmetto has been reported, in scattered case reports, to lengthen bleeding time too. Stack the two and the concern is simply additive: you may bruise more easily or bleed a bit longer from cuts, nosebleeds, or your gums.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical and based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not solid studies, so don't panic. Saw palmetto doesn't change how anagrelide is processed, so this isn't about the drug building up. Still, since bleeding is the main worry with anagrelide, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, and report any unusual bruising or bleeding.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
