Here's something worth knowing if you take ibrutinib (Imbruvica). This cancer medication can already raise your risk of bruising and bleeding on its own, because of how it affects your platelets. Saw palmetto has been reported to lengthen bleeding time too, so stacking the two together could, in theory, add up to more bleeding trouble than either alone.

To be fair, this concern rests on weak, anecdotal evidence, not solid studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, with ibrutinib I'd pay attention to signs like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or unusual bleeding that won't stop. Please don't start or stop either one on your own. Just run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first so they can weigh in.

About Ibrutinib

What Is Ibrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Imbruvica

Imbruvica (ibrutinib) is used in adults to treat chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including cases with a specific genetic change called 17p deletion. It is also used in adults to treat Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of slow-growing blood cancer.

Imbruvica is also approved for adults and children aged 1 year and older with chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) — a serious immune complication that can occur after a stem cell or bone marrow transplant — when at least one prior treatment has not worked.
