If you're using drospirenone as your birth control, here's the concern with saw palmetto. Drospirenone is an active hormone (a progestin), not a prodrug, so it doesn't need to be switched on by your body to work. The worry on file is different: saw palmetto may have mild anti-estrogen effects, and in theory that could chip away at how well your contraceptive prevents pregnancy.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's largely theoretical, based on lab thinking rather than strong human studies, so a real-world drop in protection is far from proven. Still, because an unplanned pregnancy is a big deal, I'd run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and ask whether a backup method makes sense for peace of mind.
