Sea Buckthorn Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbal Terra
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Sea Buckthorn against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Sea Buckthorn by Herbal Terra
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) dried berry liquid extract. It also contains menstruum as an inactive ingredient—a liquid used to extract and preserve the active compounds from the berries.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for sea buckthorn is mixed and incomplete. It's rated possibly effective for burns—some clinical work supports its use here.
For atopic dermatitis (eczema), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective, so it's not a reliable choice if that's your goal. For dyslipidemia (abnormal cholesterol levels), aging skin, and cancer, we don't have enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether it works or doesn't.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sea buckthorn is generally well tolerated when eaten as a food, but supplement safety hasn't been fully studied. At high doses—like 100 grams daily—it can cause yellow staining of the skin; one case of generalized yellowing was reported after 6 months at that dose.
Topically, the oil can cause dryness, irritation, redness, or rash (rash occurred in 4% of patients in one study). There isn't enough reliable safety data on supplement use while breastfeeding, so use caution and talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners (such as warfarin, aspirin, or newer anticoagulants)—this product may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you're on blood pressure medications, since sea buckthorn itself can lower pressure and the combination might drop it too far.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sea buckthorn may help with burns, but the evidence for other uses is weak or missing. If you take blood thinners or blood pressure medications, this product is a conversation with your pharmacist first.
For pregnancy or breastfeeding, the data isn't there yet—ask your doctor for personalized advice.

Sea Buckthorn by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra Sea Buckthorn is a single-ingredient liquid extract that does interact with some medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs) — sea buckthorn can slow how your blood clots, and combining it with these medications may raise your bleeding risk. This is a Moderate-severity interaction affecting a large number of drugs in this category.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other major interaction is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs). Sea buckthorn itself can lower blood pressure, so taking it alongside blood pressure drugs might drop your pressure too far, causing dizziness or lightheadedness.
This is also Moderate severity.
Altogetehr, these interactions span 287 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any prescriptions you're on before you start.
