Skullcap Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Skullcap against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: skullcap, fresh. It's a liquid extract made with grain alcohol and deionized water.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence we hold on skullcap doesn't establish that it works for any of its traditionally used purposes. The data rates it as having insufficient reliable evidence for epilepsy, stress, stroke, spasticity, contact dermatitis, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
That means the studies either aren't there yet or aren't strong enough to say whether it actually helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Skullcap is often used short-term, but evidence is limited and product quality varies, so use with care. The most common side effects reported are cognitive impairment, digestive disturbances, and sedation — though the information we have is limited.
Mild digestive upset was reported in around 9% of people taking 350 mg three times daily for two weeks. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy.
Because safety is unknown while breastfeeding, it's best to avoid it then too.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check whether you're on any central nervous system depressants (CNS depressants) — sleep aids, anti-anxiety medications, sedatives, opioid painkillers, or other drugs that slow your brain activity. Skullcap can add to their sedating effects.
Use the medication checker on this page with your exact drug names.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Skullcap is traditionally used for stress and anxiety, but we don't have reliable evidence it works. If you take any sedating medications — sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, opioids, or anything that makes you drowsy — talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product.
Definitely avoid it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Skullcap by Village Vitality Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Skullcap by Village Vitality does interact with medications — specifically, central nervous system depressants (CNS depressants).
These are drugs that slow down your brain and nervous system, like sedatives, sleep aids, anxiety medications, and opioid painkillers. Skullcap can add to their effect, which means you might feel more drowsy, dizzy, or mentally foggy than the medication alone would cause.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Animal and clinical research shows skullcap itself can cause sedation and cognitive impairment — that hazy or slowed-thinking feeling — especially at higher doses. A 100 mg dose appears to be okay in that respect, but 200 mg and above seem more likely to cause these effects.
One person reported vivid dreams after taking 350 mg three times daily for two weeks, though it's unclear whether skullcap was the cause.
Additionally, the product carries a general caution: evidence is limited and product quality varies, so use with care if you decide to take it. If you're on any CNS depressant medications, check your exact drugs with the search tool below before adding this product.
