What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Spinach against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Spinach by Herbal Terra
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) dried leaf liquid extract. It's a concentrated form of spinach leaves prepared as a liquid.
The extract is suspended in menstruum (a liquid carrier used to hold the active plant material).
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established in our data for spinach in these uses. The product's potential benefits — for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cognitive function, muscle strength, obesity, and polycystic ovary syndrome — all carry insufficient reliable evidence to rate in the research we hold.
Spinach is a nutritious food, but whether a concentrated extract works the same way for these specific conditions isn't clear from the data available to us.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Spinach as a food is well tolerated and considered safe for most people, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding — it provides folate during pregnancy, which is beneficial. As a liquid extract, spinach is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth.
Rare serious effects include methemoglobinemia in infants under 4 months old, and allergies in sensitive individuals. Inhalation of spinach powder has been linked to lung inflammation (allergic alveolitis) and occupational asthma.
Contact dermatitis from spinach has also been reported.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinner — spinach interferes with how warfarin works and will likely need dose adjustment if you use it daily. Also check if you take diabetes medications like insulin, metformin, or sulfonylureas, since spinach may add to their blood-sugar-lowering effect.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Spinach is a nutritious choice if you're looking for a concentrated plant extract, but if you take warfarin or diabetes medication, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. Keep your spinach intake consistent day to day, and let your healthcare provider know you're using it so they can monitor your blood clotting or glucose levels as needed.

Spinach by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Spinach liquid extract interacts with blood sugar medications and warfarin (a blood thinner).
The most serious concern is with warfarin: spinach is high in vitamin K, which blocks warfarin's ability to thin your blood. One meal with spinach won't throw off your INR (clotting test), but a week of daily use will, and you'll need a dose adjustment.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
With diabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, and others), spinach may lower blood sugar on top of what your medication does. Research shows that eating spinach with a meal reduces the spike in blood glucose afterward.
If you take these medications, monitor your levels closely — your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
Additionally, if you take spinach regularly and use warfarin or diabetes medication, the key is consistency: keep your intake the same day to day, and let your doctor know you're taking it so they can watch your levels or INR. Altogether, these interactions span 88 individual medications.

Antidiabetes Drugs
There are claims that spinach leaves have hypoglycemic effects. Evidence from clinical research suggests that consumption of a spinach-rich meal reduces post-meal blood glucose levels. Theoretically, spinach might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Spinach contains vitamin K, which can interfere with the activity of warfarin.
In human research, although eating spinach with one meal does not result in coagulation test results outside the therapeutic range, daily consumption for one week necessitates dose adjustment of warfarin. Individuals using anticoagulants should consume a consistent daily amount of spinach to maintain the effect of anticoagulant therapy.
