Stamina Caps Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Biotics Research Corporation
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Stamina Caps against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Stamina Caps contains 6 active ingredients: Pantothenic Acid (a B vitamin), Thiamine (vitamin B1), Coenzyme Q10 (an antioxidant your cells make naturally), L-Carnitine Hydrochloride (an amino acid derivative), Octacosanol (a plant compound), and OOrganik-15 (which we couldn't verify). The capsules also contain inactive ingredients including cellulose, gelatin, water, glycerin, and magnesium stearate as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Pantothenic acid is effective for treating pantothenic acid deficiency, but evidence is insufficient to rate it for hay fever, alcoholism, or hair loss. Thiamine is effective for thiamine deficiency and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (a serious neurological condition from severe thiamine lack); it's possibly effective for menstrual pain but possibly ineffective as a mosquito repellent or for heart failure.
Coenzyme Q10 is likely effective for CoQ10 deficiency and possibly effective for fibromyalgia, migraines, heart failure, and nerve damage from diabetes. L-Carnitine is effective for L-carnitine deficiency and possibly effective for high cholesterol, heart failure, and chest pain.
Octacosanol's effectiveness is not well established in our data — evidence is insufficient for Lou Gehrig's disease, athletic performance, Parkinson disease, and high cholesterol.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pantothenic acid is generally well tolerated at normal doses; high-dose supplements warrant your doctor's approval, especially in pregnancy. It may rarely cause diarrhea.
Thiamine is very safe by mouth at normal amounts and is needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding under provider guidance; rarely it causes allergic skin reactions. Coenzyme Q10 is generally well tolerated, though gastrointestinal side effects (appetite loss, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, vomiting) occur in less than 1% of users; there isn't enough safety data for pregnancy, so check with your doctor.
L-Carnitine is well tolerated at typical doses but may cause stomach upset and a fish-like body odor at high doses; safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding isn't well studied. Octacosanol has limited long-term safety data; it's not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Stamina Caps, check with your pharmacist if you take any blood thinners (warfarin, acenocoumarol, or antiplatelet drugs) — Moderate risk from Coenzyme Q10, L-Carnitine, and Octacosanol. Blood pressure medications (beta-blockers, propranolol, nitroprusside) — Moderate risk from Octacosanol.
Diabetes medications — Moderate risk from Octacosanol. Thyroid hormone replacement — Moderate risk from L-Carnitine.
Levodopa/carbidopa for Parkinson disease — Moderate risk from Octacosanol. Trimethoprim — Minor risk from Thiamine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Stamina Caps is a multi-ingredient supplement for general energy support, but it's not for everyone. If you take blood thinners (warfarin, acenocoumarol), blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, levodopa for Parkinson disease, or thyroid hormone replacement, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting — several ingredients can interact.
It's generally well tolerated, but gastrointestinal upset and fishy body odor are possible.

Stamina Caps by Biotics Research Corporation Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Stamina Caps by Biotics Research Corporation contains several ingredients with documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is Coenzyme Q10's interaction with blood thinner drugs (anticoagulants): it has vitamin K-like effects that may reduce how warfarin and similar drugs work, and four cases of decreased warfarin effectiveness have been reported — this is a Moderate severity issue.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-Carnitine Hydrochloride also interacts with blood thinners (warfarin and acenocoumarol) at Moderate severity, potentially increasing their anticoagulant effects and raising bleeding risk. L-Carnitine may also reduce how thyroid hormone replacement works by blocking its entry into cells.
Octacosanol interacts with multiple drug types at Moderate severity: blood pressure medications (beta-blockers, propranolol, nitroprusside), blood thinners (warfarin and antiplatelet drugs), diabetes medications, and levodopa/carbidopa for Parkinson disease. It may also worsen Parkinson symptoms when combined with levodopa/carbidopa.
Thiamine has a Minor interaction with trimethoprim, which may raise thiamine blood levels. Pantothenic acid has no known interactions documented in our data.
Alone, these interactions span 425 individual medications. We could not check OOrganik-15, as we hold no data for it.
Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact prescriptions before starting.

For each ingredient in Stamina Caps with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Octacosanol
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, octacosanol might inhibit platelet aggregation; however, clinical research suggests that this effect may not be clinically significant.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. However, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to initiating warfarin does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response. Furthermore, a study in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with a drug-eluting stent found that taking policosanol 40 mg plus clopidogrel and aspirin daily for 30 days modestly reduced the risk for minor bleeding events when compared with taking clopidogrel and aspirin alone.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, octacosanol might have additive effects when used in combination with antidiabetes drugs.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. In humans, policosanol can decrease blood glucose. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Beta-Blockers
Theoretically, concomitant use of octacosanol with beta-blockers might result in additive hypotensive effects.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Clinical research shows that policosanol 5 mg daily can have additive blood pressure-lowering effects in patients with hypertension who are taking beta-blockers. Also, animal research shows that policosanol can increase the hypotensive effects of propranolol. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Levodopa/Carbidopa (Sinemet)
Concomitant use may worsen symptoms of Parkinson disease.
One small clinical study suggests that octacosanol might worsen dyskinesias and increase nervous tension in some patients being treated with levodopa/carbidopa.
Nitroprusside (Nitropress)
Theoretically, octacosanol might enhance the hypotensive effects of nitroprusside.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with nitroprusside can increase the hypotensive effects of nitroprusside. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Propranolol (Inderal)
Theoretically, octacosanol might enhance the hypotensive effects of propranolol.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with propranolol can increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of propranolol. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, octacosanol might inhibit platelet aggregation; however, clinical research suggests that this effect may not be clinically significant.
Octacosanol is the main component of policosanol. Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. Therefore, there is concern that taking policosanol with warfarin might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding. However, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to warfarin dosing does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response. It is not clear if these effects occur with the use of octacosanol.
Coenzyme Q10
Alkylating Agents
Coenzyme Q10 has antioxidant effects. Theoretically, this may reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals.
Theoretically, antioxidants such as coenzyme Q10 might protect tumor cells from chemotherapeutic agents that work by inducing oxidative stress, such as alkylating agents (e.g., cyclophosphamide) and radiation therapy. The clinical importance of this interaction is unknown.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Coenzyme Q10 is chemically similar to menaquinone and might have vitamin K-like procoagulant effects, which could decrease the effects of warfarin.
Concomitant use of coenzyme Q10 and warfarin might reduce the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. Four cases of decreased warfarin efficacy thought to be due to coenzyme Q10 have been reported. However, there is some preliminary clinical research that suggests coenzyme Q10 might not significantly decrease the effects of warfarin in patients who have a stable INR.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, coenzyme Q10 might have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research shows that coenzyme Q10 can significantly lower blood pressure, although other studies have shown conflicting results.
L-Carnitine Hydrochloride
Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation with concomitant use. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with L-carnitine and warfarin.
Thiamine
Trimethoprim (Proloprim)
Trimethoprim might increase blood levels of thiamine.
In vitro, animal, and clinical research suggest that trimethoprim inhibits intestinal thiamine transporter ThTR-2, hepatic transporter OCT1, and renal transporters OCT2, MATE1, and MATE2, resulting in paradoxically increased thiamine plasma concentrations.
