Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Herbadiet Stinging Nettle Extract contains one active ingredient: stinging nettle root extract. The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, which is an inactive ingredient that holds the extract in a form you can swallow.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for stinging nettle is mixed. Clinical research suggests it's possibly effective for type 2 diabetes, and there's a theoretical basis for that effect.
For other uses — hay fever, anemia, asthma, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), and gingivitis — the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Stinging nettle is generally well tolerated by most adults when used as directed, though the quality and safety data vary by product. The most common side effects are constipation and diarrhea taken by mouth.
Rare case reports describe liver injury, though those involved products with multiple ingredients, so it's hard to pin the blame entirely on stinging nettle. Stinging nettle is not recommended during pregnancy because there aren't enough safety data and there are traditional concerns about effects on the uterus.
Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been established either, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're nursing. If you touch the raw plant, you may get itching, rash, or a stinging sensation on your skin.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you use warfarin or other blood thinners, diabetes medications, diuretics (water pills), or lithium. All of these carry Moderate-severity interaction risks with stinging nettle.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Stinging nettle extract may be worth considering if you're interested in blood sugar support and your doctor has signed off. But if you take warfarin, diabetes drugs, diuretics, or lithium, you need to check with your pharmacist first — this product can interfere with how those work.
Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor says otherwise.

Stinging Nettle Extract by Herbadiet Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbadiet Stinging Nettle Extract interacts with several medication types, and the most serious concern is with blood thinners like warfarin (Coumadin).
Stinging nettle is high in vitamin K, which can interfere with how warfarin works and reduce its ability to prevent clots — especially if you're taking large amounts of the supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to check with your pharmacist if you take diabetes medications or diuretics (water pills). Stinging nettle may lower blood sugar on its own, so combining it with diabetes drugs could push your levels too low.
Similarly, it has diuretic properties, so adding it to a diuretic medication might intensify the effect. There's also a theoretical concern that stinging nettle could reduce how your body clears lithium, which would raise lithium levels in your blood — something that needs close monitoring.
Altogether, these interactions span 163 individual medications. Use the search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions before you start.
