Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Strength Gainz Lemon Lime contains 19 ingredients, 13 of which are active. The two forms of creatine (creatine HCl and micronized creatine monohydrate) are the backbone — they support muscle strength and athletic performance.
You also get branched-chain amino acids (L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine) and other amino acids like L-phenylalanine, L-methionine, L-histidine, and L-tryptophan to support muscle building and recovery. D-ribose is included for energy metabolism, L-theanine for focus, and a mushroom blend with cordyceps, reishi, shiitake, lion's mane, and King Trumpet for performance and immune support.
The inactive ingredients are natural and artificial flavors, citric acid, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, and maltodextrin — standard powder fillers and sweeteners.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for muscle and performance support is mixed across ingredients. Creatine (in both forms) is possibly effective for muscle strength, athletic performance, and sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss).
The amino acids L-phenylalanine and L-methionine have insufficient or weak evidence for the claims often made in muscle-building supplements. D-ribose shows possibly ineffective evidence for athletic performance.
L-theanine is possibly effective for cognitive function, which may help focus during workouts. The mushroom ingredients — cordyceps, reishi, shiitake, and lion's mane — all show insufficient evidence for athletic performance or muscle-building claims in our data.
Overall, creatine carries the strongest evidence; the rest have either limited or no solid proof of benefit for strength training.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Creatine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults but can cause dehydration, diarrhea, muscle cramps, and water retention. People with kidney problems should be cautious.
Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding. L-tryptophan is generally well tolerated orally but caused a serious neurological problem (eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome) in contaminated batches in the 1980s; modern products are closely monitored.
Common side effects include drowsiness, nausea, and headache. L-phenylalanine may cause anxiety, insomnia, constipation, and nausea — and must be avoided by anyone with phenylketonuria (PKU).
D-ribose can lower blood sugar and cause diarrhea, nausea, and headache. L-theanine may cause drowsiness or headache.
The mushrooms (cordyceps, reishi, shiitake, lion's mane) are generally well tolerated as food but have limited long-term safety data in supplement form; shiitake dermatitis can occur from raw mushrooms. Most ingredients should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check with your pharmacist if you take levodopa (Parkinson disease), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel), diabetes medications or insulin, blood pressure medications, benzodiazepines or opioids, older antidepressants (MAOIs), immune-suppressing drugs, or drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP2D6 (such as certain antidepressants). These are the medication types most likely to interact with ingredients in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Strength Gainz works best for athletes wanting creatine-backed muscle and strength support, though the amino acid and mushroom blend evidence is thin. If you take levodopa, baclofen, MAOIs, blood thinners, diabetes medications, antihypertensive drugs, CNS depressants, or antidepressants, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting — several ingredients interact with these drug types.
Anyone with kidney disease, phenylketonuria, or a history of low blood sugar should be especially cautious.

Strength Gainz Lemon Lime by BPI Sports Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Strength Gainz Lemon Lime by BPI Sports contains several ingredients with documented drug interactions.
The most serious concern is L-phenylalanine, which has a Major interaction with levodopa (used for Parkinson disease) — phenylalanine competes with levodopa for transport into the brain, potentially worsening tremor and muscle rigidity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions span multiple drug categories. L-tryptophan may add to the sedative effects of central nervous system depressants (like benzodiazepines, opioids, and sleep aids) and could theoretically increase serotonergic side effects when combined with antidepressants or other serotonergic drugs.
D-ribose may lower blood sugar too much if you're taking diabetes medications or insulin. Cordyceps, reishi, and lion's mane mushrooms each carry theoretical bleeding risks with blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel.
Reishi may also add to the blood-pressure-lowering effects of antihypertensive drugs, and lion's mane may have additive effects with diabetes medications or interfere with immune-suppressing drugs. Shiitake mushroom could theoretically reduce levels of certain antidepressants or other drugs metabolized by the liver enzyme CYP2D6, and may also interfere with immunosuppressants.
L-phenylalanine also has a Moderate interaction with baclofen (a muscle relaxant) by reducing its absorption, and with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs — older antidepressants like phenelzine) due to hypertension risk. L-theanine carries Minor interactions with blood pressure medications and CNS depressants, and theoretically with serotonergic drugs, though clinical cases have not been reported.
Additionally, creatine (present in two forms) was checked and shows no interactions documented. We could not check dextrose, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, pink Himalayan salt, King Trumpet, or Turkey Tail.

For each ingredient in Strength Gainz Lemon Lime with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Theonine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theanine might lower blood pressure, potentiating the effects of antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research shows that theanine can lower blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive animals. Theoretically, concomitant use of theanine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate the antihypertensive activity.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, theanine might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Theoretically, theanine may compete with glutamate and/or increase plasma gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels, which could cause CNS depression. In one clinical study, some subjects taking oral theanine reported drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Clinical studies regarding the effects of L-theanine on serotonin levels are conflicting. Some studies suggest it can increase serotonin levels in the brain while others report that it may decrease them. Nevertheless, there have been no reports of l-theanine being a causative agent in serotonergic-related side effects or serotonin syndrome.
L-Tryptophan
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-tryptophan with CNS depressants might cause additive sedative effects.
Clinical research shows that L-tryptophan can cause fatigue and drowsiness.
Serotonergic Drugs
Theoretically, combining L-tryptophan with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.
L-tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with L-tryptophan might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders.
Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Lion's Mane
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that lion's mane mushroom extracts can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that an aqueous extract of lion's mane mushroom can reduce serum glucose and increase serum insulin.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of lion's mane mushroom might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In animal and in vitro research, lion's mane mushroom polysaccharides stimulate the immune system.
Shiitake
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking shiitake mushroom might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro evidence suggests that shiitake mushroom extracts stimulate immune function.
Cordyceps
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
D-Ribose
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking ribose in combination with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, ribose decreases serum glucose levels in a dose-dependent manner.
Insulin
Theoretically, taking ribose with insulin could increase the hypoglycemic effect of insulin.
In clinical pharmacokinetic studies, oral administration of ribose modestly increased serum insulin levels.
L-Phenylalanine
Levodopa
Phenylalanine, especially in high doses, can reduce the effectiveness of levodopa.
Phenylalanine competes with levodopa for carrier-mediated transport into the brain. The resulting reduction in levels of levodopa in the brain can exacerbate tremor, rigidity, and the "on-off" phenomenon in patients with Parkinson disease.
Baclofen
Concomitant intake of phenylalanine may reduce the intestinal absorption of baclofen.
Phenylalanine and baclofen share the same intestinal carrier for absorption; phenylalanine competitively inhibits the absorption of baclofen, reducing its plasma levels.
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (Maois)
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-phenylalanine and non-selective MAOIs might increase the risk of hypertensive crisis.
L-phenylalanine is metabolized to tyrosine. Some evidence suggests that L-phenylalanine, given with the non-selective MAOI pargyline, might prevent the elimination of tyramine, increasing the risk of hypertensive crisis. However, this was not reported in a small number of patients when using L-phenylalanine with the partially selective MAO-B inhibitor, selegiline.
