Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Aluminum Hydroxide, Aspirin, Codeine Phosphate, Magnesium Hydroxide
Aluminum Hydroxide, Aspirin, Codeine Phosphate, Magnesium Hydroxide falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group L-tryptophan interacts with.
Clinical research shows that L-tryptophan can cause fatigue and drowsiness.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
The piece of this combination product that matters most here is the codeine, which is an opioid that already makes many people feel sleepy and slowed down. L-tryptophan can cause its own drowsiness and fatigue, so pairing the two may stack those effects. You could feel more sedated, foggy, or lightheaded than usual, and in some folks that can mean slower breathing or trouble staying alert.
This concern is partly theoretical but backed by clinical research showing tryptophan itself causes drowsiness, so I'd take it seriously. It's not about a liver enzyme speeding up or slowing down the drug, it's simply two things that calm the nervous system added together. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't drive until you know how you react.
