Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Sugar Balance contains one active ingredient: Ceylon cinnamon. The capsule also includes three inactive ingredients — cellulose, rice flour, and magnesium stearate — which serve as fillers and binders to hold the supplement together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Ceylon Cinnamon product and its label doesn't state a use — see Ceylon Cinnamon's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for Ceylon cinnamon in this product is limited. For obesity and diabetes, the data shows it's possibly ineffective.

For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), common cold, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate its effectiveness one way or the other. If you're considering this product for any of these uses, talk with us about whether the current evidence supports it for your specific situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Ceylon cinnamon taken orally is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are bloating, indigestion (dyspepsia), and nausea — and adverse reactions are uncommon overall.

However, supplement-strength doses are less studied than the amounts you'd get from food, so caution is warranted. Food amounts of cinnamon are likely fine, but avoid taking medicinal or supplement doses without medical advice.

There is one rare case report of bleeding after prolonged, high-dose use, and a few cases of skin reactions or itching have been reported in small studies. If you have a known allergy to cinnamon or cinnamyl alcohol, avoid this product.

  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 258 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your blood pressure medications and diabetes medications with the search tool on this page before taking this product. Ceylon cinnamon may lower blood pressure and blood glucose, which could combine with your drugs and require dose adjustments.

Sugar Balance by Wholly Liquid: Common Questions

Does Sugar Balance by Wholly Liquid interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Sugar Balance has a known interaction with 258 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Sugar Balance contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will Ceylon cinnamon actually help me lose weight or control my blood sugar?
The evidence isn't encouraging. Studies show Ceylon cinnamon is possibly ineffective for both obesity and diabetes. While it may lower blood glucose in theory, the evidence for real-world benefit isn't solid — talk with us about whether other approaches might be better for your goals.
Is it safe to take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The data shows Ceylon cinnamon is likely safe during pregnancy. For breastfeeding, it's rated as likely safe. However, the safety note cautions that food amounts are likely fine, but the safety of supplement doses while breastfeeding is unknown — so talk with your doctor or us about what dose is right for you if you're nursing.
What side effects might I notice?
Most people tolerate it well, and serious side effects are rare. The most common ones are bloating, indigestion, and nausea. A few people in studies reported itching or rashes. Stop taking it and let us know if you develop any skin reactions.
Does this product have fillers or other stuff I should know about?
The capsule contains cellulose, rice flour, and magnesium stearate — these are standard inactive ingredients that help form and stabilize the capsule. If you have sensitivities to any of these, let us know.
Can I take this with my other supplements?
The data we have only covers interactions with medications, not other supplements. If you're taking other products, bring them in or ask us — we can help you figure out whether they work well together.
