What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: sulforaphane 400 mcg per capsule. Sulforaphane is a naturally occurring compound found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts; this supplement provides it in concentrated form.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients (rice flour and hypromellose) that serve as fillers and the capsule material itself.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for sulforaphane is mixed and limited. It's rated possibly effective for prostate cancer, meaning there's some early promise but not yet strong proof.
For Helicobacter pylori (a stomach bacterium), it's rated possibly ineffective. For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), asthma, and cancer in general, the evidence we hold is insufficient — we simply don't have enough reliable data to know whether it works.
If you're considering this for a specific health goal, talk with your doctor about what the current research actually supports and whether it makes sense for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sulforaphane from food sources is considered safe. Concentrated supplements like this one are less well studied over the long term, so caution is warranted if you plan to take it regularly.
The most common side effects reported are bowel discomfort, heartburn, stomach upset, and vomiting. Isolated cases have also reported headache, insomnia, irritability, and — in two males with autism — seizures; one of those occurred after 3 weeks of use.
One study in males aged 13 to 27 with autism reported an average weight gain of 4 pounds over 18 weeks compared to placebo. For pregnancy, concentrated supplements have not been proven safe, so the advice is to avoid them and get sulforaphane from normal food amounts instead.
For breastfeeding, there isn't enough information on supplement-level doses, so caution is recommended — food-level amounts are preferred. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any medications that rely on CYP3A4, CYP1A2, or CYP2E1 enzymes for clearance — sulforaphane may raise their levels in your bloodstream (Moderate severity for all three categories). This can affect a wide range of drugs, from heart medications to immunosuppressants to some antidepressants.
Use the interaction checker below with each of your medications to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sulforaphane may be worth considering if you're interested in prostate health and have discussed it with your doctor, but the evidence for most other uses isn't established yet. The major catch is that it interacts with a large number of medications through liver enzyme pathways, so you'll need to check your exact drugs before starting.
Talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it won't affect how your current medications work.

Sulforaphane 400 mcg by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Swanson's Sulforaphane 400 mcg interacts with a significant number of medications through its effects on three major drug-processing enzymes in your liver.
The most serious concern is with CYP3A4 substrates (Moderate severity) — sulforaphane may increase their levels and effects, which can amplify both benefits and side effects of those drugs. Additionally, CYP1A2 and CYP2E1 substrates also carry Moderate-severity interaction potential; sulforaphane may alter how your body clears these medications, though the research is still largely from lab and animal studies, not yet confirmed in people taking them.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The problem is that these three enzyme groups cover a very wide range of common medications — from heart drugs and immunosuppressants to some antidepressants and pain relievers. Altogether, these interactions span 723 individual medications.
Because the exact effect on any one drug depends on your dose, your liver function, and other factors, you'll need to check your specific medications before starting this supplement.
Use the interaction checker on this page to look up each of your prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs. If any come up, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before adding sulforaphane — they can help you decide whether it's safe for you or if timing or dosing needs adjusting.

Sulforaphane
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP2E1 substrates.
In vitro evidence shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP2E1 enzymes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, sulforaphane might increase the levels and effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity and downregulates its expression. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
