HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chlorophyll, the green pigment in plants. Chlorella, the whole algae, is the source material, but the active compound listed is chlorophyll itself.
The tablet also contains two inactive ingredients — vegetable cellulose and vegetable magnesium stearate — which are fillers and binders that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold does not establish that chlorophyll is effective for any of the conditions studied — genital herpes, wound healing, herpes zoster (shingles), nonmelanoma skin cancer, and pancreatitis all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the data available to us isn't strong enough to draw a conclusion.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorophyll is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but high-quality long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effect is photosensitization — your skin becoming overly sensitive to sunlight, which can cause blistering or burning.
Rarely, a condition called pseudoporphyria (painful blisters on the hands after sun exposure) has been reported in people taking chlorophyll by mouth. Topical chlorophyll cream may also cause skin irritation.
Avoid this product during pregnancy — there isn't enough reliable safety information. During breastfeeding, safety is unknown; do not take it unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist or doctor if you take any photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity, such as certain antibiotics, NSAIDs, or antihistamines) or methotrexate. Both carry Moderate interaction warnings.
Your pharmacist can help you decide whether it's safe to use both.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take photosensitizing drugs (ask your pharmacist which ones you're on) or methotrexate, you need to clear this product with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. If you're considering chlorophyll for a skin or immune condition, keep in mind the evidence isn't yet there to show it works.
Talk it over with your own healthcare provider — they know your medical history and can help you weigh the sun-sensitivity risk.

Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories contains chlorophyll, which has documented interactions with photosensitizing drugs (medications that make your skin react badly to sunlight) and methotrexate (a cancer and autoimmune medication).
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction with photosensitizing drugs — chlorophyll may add to their effects and theoretically worsen sun sensitivity or, rarely, a condition called pseudoporphyria (painful blistering after sun exposure).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Methotrexate carries a Moderate interaction as well. In one case report, chlorophyll appeared to slow how the body clears high-dose methotrexate, raising drug levels.
When chlorophyll was stopped a few days before the methotrexate dose, clearance returned to normal.
Additionally, chlorella itself (the whole algae) is listed as a blend; we do not hold separate interaction data for its component parts beyond chlorophyll. Use the medication checker below to search your exact drugs — that'll tell you whether any of yours fall into these categories.

Chlorella
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, chlorella might reduce the clinical effects of warfarin.
Chlorella contains significant amounts of vitamin K. There is at least one case report of warfarin therapy becoming sub-therapeutic after initiation of chlorella supplements.
