Auranofin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

Here's the simple version: this isn't about how your body breaks down auranofin (Ridaura). Instead, both auranofin and chlorophyll can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so taking them together may add up. Auranofin, a gold-based arthritis medicine, is already known to cause sun-related skin reactions, and chlorophyll has been linked in a couple of case reports to a sun-triggered skin problem called pseudoporphyria.

What might you notice? Easier sunburn, rashes, or skin blistering in areas exposed to sun. Keep in mind this is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so don't panic. Still, it's smart to use sunscreen and protective clothing, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Auranofin Used For?

Brand name: Ridaura

Auranofin capsules — sold as both Ridaura and Auranofin — are used to manage active rheumatoid arthritis in adults. Specifically, they're for people whose arthritis hasn't improved enough with full doses of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen, or who couldn't tolerate those medicines.

It works best alongside a full treatment program — not as a stand-alone fix. It's important to know that it doesn't work quickly: you may not notice improvement for three to six months, and it cannot reverse joint or bone damage that has already occurred.
