Amiodarone falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

Here's the thing about this pairing: it's not about how your body breaks down amiodarone. Instead, it's about your skin. Amiodarone is well known for making people much more sensitive to sunlight, so even a short time outside can leave you with a bad sunburn or, over time, a blue-gray tint to sun-exposed skin. Chlorophyll has also been linked, in a couple of case reports, to sun sensitivity.

So the worry is simply additive: two things that each make you sun-sensitive may add up and raise your odds of burning or reacting. This is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so don't panic. Just be smart about sunscreen, hats, and shade, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding chlorophyll.

What Is Amiodarone Used For?

Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).

Because amiodarone comes with significant risks, doctors reserve it for situations where other options haven't worked or can't be tolerated. It is not a first-choice medication — it's a last-resort tool for serious, life-threatening conditions.
