Griseofulvin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

Here's the thing to know about pairing chlorophyll with griseofulvin: both can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Griseofulvin is already well known for causing sun sensitivity, meaning you can sunburn faster or break out in a rash even with normal sun exposure. Chlorophyll has also been linked, in a couple of case reports, to a skin reaction called pseudoporphyria. So putting the two together could add up and make your skin more reactive than either one alone.

This is mostly a theoretical concern, and the evidence is modest, so don't panic. But it's a reasonable reason to be extra careful with sunscreen, hats, and shade while you're on griseofulvin. Chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a chlorophyll supplement.

About Griseofulvin

What Is Griseofulvin Used For?

Brand names: Fulvicin PG, Fulvicin-U/F, Grisactin Ultra, Grisactin

Griseofulvin treats dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails that haven't cleared up with topical (cream or ointment) treatment alone. It is used for tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea barbae (ringworm of the beard area), tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), and tinea unguium (fungal nail infection).

It only works against specific dermatophyte fungi. Griseofulvin does not treat bacterial infections, yeast infections (candidiasis), or other fungal infections such as histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, or tinea versicolor. A lab test or fungal culture should confirm the infection before treatment starts.
