PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Griseofulvin
Griseofulvin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.
Animal research suggests that excessive doses of alfalfa may increase photosensitivity, possibly due to its chlorophyll content. It is unclear if this effect would be clinically relevant in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing alfalfa with griseofulvin: this antifungal can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, meaning you may burn faster or get a rash after time outdoors. Alfalfa, at least in animal studies, may add a little to that sun sensitivity, possibly because of its chlorophyll content.
I'll be straight with you, though. This is a theoretical concern based on pharmacology and animal research, not strong human evidence, and it likely only matters with concentrated supplement doses rather than alfalfa sprouts on a sandwich. Still, while you're on griseofulvin, it's smart to use sunscreen and cover up outside. Run the alfalfa supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Griseofulvin page
“If you take griseofulvin for a fungal infection of the skin, scalp, or nails, give this list of 61 ingredients real attention. The single major entry is activated charcoal, which binds the drug in your gut so less of it reaches your blood and the infection gets less treatment.”

- High cholesterol

- Arthritis and joint pain
- General nutritional supplement
Alfalfa is a nutrient-rich legume that people use for high cholesterol, menopause symptoms, and general wellness, but solid human evidence for most of these uses is limited. About Griseofulvin
What Is Griseofulvin Used For?
Brand names: Fulvicin PG, Fulvicin-U/F, Grisactin Ultra, Grisactin
Griseofulvin treats dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails that haven't cleared up with topical (cream or ointment) treatment alone. It is used for tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea barbae (ringworm of the beard area), tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), and tinea unguium (fungal nail infection).
It only works against specific dermatophyte fungi. Griseofulvin does not treat bacterial infections, yeast infections (candidiasis), or other fungal infections such as histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, or tinea versicolor. A lab test or fungal culture should confirm the infection before treatment starts.
