Naproxen falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of alfalfa with photosensitizing drugs might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that excessive doses of alfalfa may increase photosensitivity, possibly due to its chlorophyll content. It is unclear if this effect would be clinically relevant in humans.

Here's the simple version. Naproxen can sometimes make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, meaning you may burn faster than usual. Alfalfa, especially in big concentrated supplement doses, contains chlorophyll that might do something similar. Put the two together and, in theory, they could add up and leave your skin a bit more prone to sunburn.

I want to be honest about how shaky this one is. The concern comes from animal research using high amounts of alfalfa, and we don't really know if it matters in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Just use everyday sun sense (sunscreen, a hat, some shade), and if you notice you're burning easily, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Naproxen

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
