Fluphenazine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of alfalfa with photosensitizing drugs might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that excessive doses of alfalfa may increase photosensitivity, possibly due to its chlorophyll content. It is unclear if this effect would be clinically relevant in humans.

Here's the gist for these two together. Fluphenazine already carries a known quirk: it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may burn faster or react more strongly to UV rays than you normally would. Alfalfa, at least in animal studies and likely tied to its chlorophyll content, may also nudge up that sun sensitivity. Put them side by side and the worry is simply an additive sunburn-type effect.

I'll be honest with you, though: this is theoretical and based on pharmacology and animal data, not solid human proof, and it mostly involves large alfalfa doses rather than a sprout on a sandwich. Still, it's smart to use good sunscreen and cover up, and to run any alfalfa supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Fluphenazine Used For?

Brand names: Prolixin, Permitil, Fluphenazine

Fluphenazine hydrochloride tablets and oral solution are indicated for the management of psychotic disorders. Fluphenazine Hydrochloride Injection is also used for psychotic disorders and can bridge patients to oral therapy.

Fluphenazine Decanoate Injection is a long-acting form specifically intended for patients who need extended antipsychotic treatment — for example, those with chronic schizophrenia who benefit from a single injection that can last up to four weeks or longer. It is not approved for behavioral problems related to intellectual disability, and it is not approved for dementia-related psychosis in elderly patients.
