Alfalfa + Minocycline
Minocycline brand names: Vectrin, Dynacin, Minocin, Minocin IV, Solodyn, and others.
Alfalfa has a moderate interaction with Minocycline. Theoretically, concomitant use of alfalfa with photosensitizing drugs might have additive effects.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Minocycline
Minocycline falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.
Animal research suggests that excessive doses of alfalfa may increase photosensitivity, possibly due to its chlorophyll content. It is unclear if this effect would be clinically relevant in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: minocycline is one of those antibiotics that can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Alfalfa contains chlorophyll, and in some animal studies large amounts seemed to add a bit of extra sun sensitivity. The worry is that stacking the two could make you more likely to get a quick or unexpected burn.
I want to be honest about how weak this is. It's a theoretical concern based on pharmacology and animal data, not strong human evidence, and food amounts of alfalfa are unlikely to matter much. Concentrated supplement doses are where I'd pay attention. While on minocycline, use sunscreen and cover up, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding alfalfa supplements.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Minocycline page
“This is one of the longer interaction lists I review, and with minocycline it earns real care rather than a shrug. Most entries pair this tetracycline antibiotic, taken for acne and other infections, with supplements that raise bleeding risk, and a second sizable group, beer and wine included, can add strain on the liver.”

About Alfalfa
What is Alfalfa?
- High cholesterol
- Digestive complaints
- Menopausal symptoms
- Arthritis and joint pain
- General nutritional supplement
Alfalfa is a nutrient-rich legume that people use for high cholesterol, menopause symptoms, and general wellness, but solid human evidence for most of these uses is limited. It is best avoided by people with autoimmune diseases, those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and anyone with a weakened immune system, and you should check with your pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
