HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: chlorophyll, the green pigment found in plants. Chlorophyll is what's responsible for the supplement's intended effects.
The tablet also contains two inactive ingredients — vegetable cellulose and vegetable magnesium stearate — which are used as a binder and flow agent to hold the pill together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for chlorophyll doesn't yet support its use for genital herpes, wound healing, shingles, skin cancer, or pancreatitis. For all of these conditions, the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works.
That doesn't mean it's ineffective — it means well-designed studies haven't established whether it does or doesn't.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chlorophyll is generally well tolerated when you take it short-term, though we don't have a lot of high-quality safety data on long-term use. The most common side effect is photosensitivity — your skin becomes more sensitive to sunlight.
In rare cases, people taking oral chlorophyll have developed pseudoporphyria, a condition that causes easily-bruised blisters on the hands. During pregnancy, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so the data advises against it.
During breastfeeding, safety is unknown — avoid it unless your own doctor tells you it's okay.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this if you use photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity) or methotrexate. Both have Moderate interactions documented with chlorophyll.
No interactions are documented for the chlorella component we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a single-ingredient supplement with a clear interaction profile. If you take methotrexate or photosensitizing drugs (like certain antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications), you'll want to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist first.
For everyone else, the main caution is that it can make your skin light-sensitive, so sun protection matters if you take it. Talk it over with your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any prescription medications.

Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Super Chlorella 1000 mg by Wonder Laboratories contains chlorophyll, which interacts with photosensitizing drugs and methotrexate (a cancer and autoimmune medication).
The most serious concern is a Moderate interaction with photosensitizing drugs — chlorophyll can cause light sensitivity (photosensitization) on its own, and combining it with other light-sensitizing medications may worsen that effect. In rare cases, oral chlorophyll has been linked to pseudoporphyria, a blistering condition.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chlorophyll also has a Moderate interaction with methotrexate (Trexall and others). One case report found that taking chlorophyll alongside methotrexate slowed how quickly your body cleared the drug.
When the patient stopped chlorophyll two days before their methotrexate dose, clearance returned to normal. If you take methotrexate, you'll want to discuss the timing of this supplement with your own doctor or pharmacist.
Although we checked chlorophyll thoroughly, there's a second active ingredient — chlorella — whose interaction data we could not fully assess. Use the medication checker below with your exact drugs to see if any interact with either component.

Chlorella
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, chlorella might reduce the clinical effects of warfarin.
Chlorella contains significant amounts of vitamin K. There is at least one case report of warfarin therapy becoming sub-therapeutic after initiation of chlorella supplements.
