What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 6 active ingredients.
  • “Vegetable Concentrate Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (50 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

Super Maca Capsule contains 6 active ingredients: Damiana extract, Tongkat Ali extract, Tribulus terrestris extract, Catuaba extract, Epimedium extract, and Black Maca. These are traditional plant extracts used in herbal wellness products, each with a history of use in botanical preparations.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients including gelatin, dicalcium phosphate, and a vegetable concentrate blend — these are fillers and binders that help form and stabilize the capsule.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Energy and mood support for vitality.
  • We looked for evidence on: Fatigue, Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Depression, Menopausal symptoms, Postmenopausal conditions, Stamina — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Tribulus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Tribulus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Menopausal symptoms.
  • Also on file: Maca is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Depression, Fatigue, Postmenopausal conditions.

The evidence for these ingredients is mixed and mostly limited. Tribulus and Tongkat Ali are both rated Possibly Effective for sexual desire and sexual dysfunction — that's the clearest claim the data supports.

Tribulus is rated Possibly Ineffective for athletic performance. For the other conditions listed (back pain, osteoporosis, diabetes, amenorrhea, anemia, antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction, and athletic performance for other ingredients), the evidence is insufficient to rate them reliably.

Damiana, Catuaba, and Black Maca have no established effectiveness ratings in our data — we simply don't have enough research to say whether they work for any particular condition.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 5 of the 6 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 6 of 6.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 6 of 6.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Short-term use of these ingredients is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but long-term safety data are limited across the board. Damiana at very high doses (200 grams of extract) has caused severe neurological symptoms resembling poisoning in rare cases — normal supplement use is far below that.

Tribulus has been linked to rare serious side effects including liver and kidney injury and seizures, though it's usually mild and well tolerated. Both Tribulus and Tongkat Ali can cause gastrointestinal upset (nausea, cramping, diarrhea) in some people.

Tongkat Ali theoretically raises testosterone, which at excess levels could trigger acne, insulin resistance, and liver stress. Black Maca may cause stomach pain if consumed raw or uncooked, though the supplement form shouldn't carry that risk.

None of these ingredients have enough safety data in pregnancy or breastfeeding — the facts advise against use in both situations.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 4 of the 6 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Tribulus, Horny Goat Weed, Damiana, Eurycoma Longifolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications; lithium.
  • For scale: 1,069 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your pharmacist before taking this product if you use any blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), diabetes medications, propranolol, or lithium. The first three interact at Moderate severity; the effects could lower your blood pressure or blood sugar too far or reduce your heart medication's effectiveness.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This product is marketed for sexual function, and Tribulus and Tongkat Ali do have some evidence for that use. However, if you take blood pressure meds, diabetes medications, propranolol, or lithium, you need to check with your pharmacist first — the interactions here are real enough to matter.

Pregnant or breastfeeding people should skip it. Most others may tolerate it short-term, but long-term safety hasn't been studied well.

Propranolol (Inderal)

Eurycoma longifolia can reduce the levels and clinical effects of propranolol.
A small clinical study in healthy persons shows that taking a single dose of a water-based Eurycoma longifolia extract 200 mg, in combination with a single dose of propranolol 80 mg, reduces the propranolol area under the curve (AUC) by 29%, reduces the peak concentration by 42%, and increases time to peak concentration by 86% when compared with control. Since the elimination half-life of propranolol did not change, it seems that Eurycoma longifolia alters the kinetics of propranolol by decreasing its absorption in the gut, and not by altering its metabolism. It is not known if separating administration will prevent this interaction.

Likelihood Probable Evidence A
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2A6 (Cyp2A6) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2A6 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2A6 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia might increase levels of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that methanolic Eurycoma longifolia root extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzymes. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Testosterone

Theoretically, Eurycoma longifolia may further increase levels of testosterone.
A clinical study in aging males with testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL shows that taking a specific water extract of Eurycoma longifolia roots (Physta; Biotropics Malaysia) 100-200 mg daily with breakfast for 12 weeks increases total testosterone levels by 8% to 11% when compared with placebo. It is unclear whether this increase would occur in individuals with normal testosterone levels.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Damiana extract1 drug type · 86 drugs

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, taking damiana with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research shows that taking damiana lowers blood glucose level.

Super Maca Capsule by Esmond Natural: Common Questions

Does Super Maca Capsule by Esmond Natural interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Super Maca Capsule has a known interaction with 1,068 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Super Maca Capsule contains 6 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What's in this for sexual function?
Tribulus terrestris and Tongkat Ali are the two ingredients with research support for sexual desire and sexual dysfunction — both are rated Possibly Effective. The other herbs have a traditional reputation but don't have the same evidence behind them.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant?
No, the safety data advise against all these ingredients during pregnancy. There isn't enough information to know they're safe for your baby, so talk with your OB or midwife for personalized advice.
Is it okay while breastfeeding?
No, there isn't enough reliable safety data for any of these ingredients in breastfeeding. Your pharmacist or doctor can help you decide whether any alternatives might work better.
What side effects should I watch for?
Most people tolerate these extracts without trouble, but stomach upset (nausea, cramping, diarrhea) can happen. At very high doses, damiana has caused serious neurological symptoms, though that's extremely rare. If you notice anything unusual, stop and call your pharmacist.
What is Tongkat Ali supposed to do?
It's included for sexual function, where it's rated Possibly Effective. Some research suggests it may increase testosterone in men with low levels, which is why it's sometimes called a testosterone booster — but the evidence is modest.
Are there any fillers in this?
Yes, the capsule contains gelatin, dicalcium phosphate, and a vegetable concentrate blend as inactive ingredients. These are standard binders and fillers that help form the capsule and stabilize the contents.
