Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: taurine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and also gets from food, especially from meat and fish. Taurine is involved in several body functions, including heart and muscle health.
The capsule itself is made from plant-derived hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, with microcrystalline cellulose and vegetable magnesium stearate as inactive ingredients that help hold the capsule together and flow through the manufacturing equipment.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Taurine is rated possibly effective for hepatitis and possibly effective for congestive heart failure (CHF), meaning there's some clinical evidence but it's not yet conclusive. For obesity, the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective.
The data we hold doesn't establish strong proof for any use, so talk with your doctor about whether taurine makes sense for your particular situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Taurine is generally well tolerated when taken orally in typical doses for up to one year. The most common side effects are constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Long-term safety beyond a year is less certain, and the safety data for supplement doses isn't as robust as we'd like — so use it only under medical guidance. People with a history of allergies to sulfonamides or sulfites should be aware that rare hypersensitivity reactions to taurine have been reported.
Serious cardiovascular effects have been reported in cases involving energy drinks with taurine and other ingredients, though it's unclear whether taurine alone was responsible.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) or lithium, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. Both interactions are rated Moderate severity and could affect how well your medications work or how much builds up in your body.
Altogether, these interactions span 173 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Taurine may be worth considering if you have hepatitis or heart failure and your doctor thinks it might help. If you take blood pressure medication or lithium, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — these interactions could be significant.
It's generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety data is limited, so it's best used under medical supervision.

Taurine 500 mg by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Taurine 500 mg by BIOVEA interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) and lithium, both at Moderate severity.
Through its taurine content, this product may lower blood pressure further when combined with antihypertensive drugs, increasing the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). The effect happens because taurine appears to reduce blood pressure on its own.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Taurine may also slow how your body clears lithium, potentially raising lithium levels in your blood to unsafe ranges. This matters because lithium has a narrow safety window — small changes in blood levels can shift the difference between an effective dose and a toxic one.
Additionally, if you take either of these drug types, check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting taurine. Your doctor or pharmacist can advise whether it's safe for you or if your doses need adjusting.
