Tivose Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Tivose against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Tivose by Nutramax Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Tivose contains one active ingredient: a patented extract from maitake mushroom, a fungus used in traditional medicine. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate — which are fillers and binders that help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold on maitake mushroom for most of its marketed uses — including hay fever (allergic rhinitis), cancer-related anemia, laryngeal cancer, diarrhea from chemotherapy, and chronic fatigue syndrome — is rated insufficient. That means the data we have isn't reliable enough to say whether it works or doesn't work for these conditions.
If you're considering Tivose for a specific health goal, it's worth talking it over with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Maitake mushroom from the extract is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were gastrointestinal — a small number of trial participants experienced diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain (epigastric pain).
One person developed a rash and itching (pruritus) after two doses, though it cleared on its own without treatment. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data to know whether concentrated maitake supplements are safe.
The safety notes advise against use in both situations. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Tivose, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take warfarin or other blood thinners (a moderate risk that maitake may strengthen their effect), blood pressure medications (a moderate risk of blood pressure dropping too low), or diabetes medications (a moderate risk of blood sugar dropping too low).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Tivose might appeal to someone looking to support immune or general wellness, but the evidence for its specific health claims isn't well established in the data we hold. The bigger concern is if you take blood thinners, blood pressure pills, or diabetes medications — this product could affect how those drugs work.

Tivose by Nutramax Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Tivose by Nutramax Laboratories contains maitake mushroom extract, which interacts with several common medication types.
The most serious concern is with warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner — there's limited evidence that maitake mushroom may strengthen warfarin's effect on blood clotting, and one case report documented a patient's clotting marker (INR) spike after starting the supplement alongside their stable warfarin dose.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Maitake mushroom also has moderate interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs) and diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). Animal research shows the extract can lower blood pressure, so combining it with blood pressure drugs might push your pressure too low.
Similarly, clinical research shows maitake can lower blood glucose levels, so pairing it with diabetes drugs could increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Altogether, these interactions span 260 individual medications. Before you start Tivose, run your exact prescriptions — especially any blood thinners, blood pressure pills, or diabetes medications — through the interaction checker on this page or discuss them with your own doctor or pharmacist.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
