Here's the simple version: your Capozide already lowers blood pressure two ways, with captopril relaxing your blood vessels and hydrochlorothiazide flushing out extra salt and water. Maitake mushroom may nudge blood pressure down a little too. Stack them together and, in theory, your pressure could dip lower than you want.

I'll be honest, this concern comes mostly from animal studies, so the evidence is weak and a real problem isn't likely. Eating maitake as food in a meal is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement capsules are the bigger question mark. If you take them, just keep an eye out for dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding them.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
