ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glyburide
Glyburide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Maitake Mushroom interacts with.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind: glyburide already lowers your blood sugar by pushing your pancreas to release more insulin. Maitake mushroom, especially in concentrated supplement form, may have its own mild blood-sugar-lowering effect. So when you stack the two, the worry is that they add up and your sugar drops too low. That's called hypoglycemia, and with glyburide it can show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, confusion, or feeling suddenly weak or hungry.
This is mostly theoretical, backed by some lower-quality studies, so it's not a sure thing. Eating maitake as food is unlikely to cause trouble. If you want to try a maitake supplement, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch your glucose readings more closely at the start.

About Maitake Mushroom
What is Maitake Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- General wellness and antioxidant support
Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Glyburide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glyburide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Maitake Mushroom — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
