Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Metoprolol
Metoprolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Maitake Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: metoprolol already works to bring your blood pressure down and slow your heart rate. Maitake mushroom may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. So in theory, stacking the two together could push your numbers a bit lower than expected. If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded (especially when standing up), unusually tired, or notice your pulse running slow.
I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It's theoretical and comes mostly from animal studies, not solid human trials. Eating maitake as food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. If you'd like to try one, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your blood pressure.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Metoprolol page
“With metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), a beta-blocker for high blood pressure and heart problems, these interactions deserve genuine care, starting with the five rated major. Most entries pull blood pressure one way or the other: many supplements add to metoprolol's lowering effect and can drop pressure too far, while a few, tyramine…”

About Maitake Mushroom
What is Maitake Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- General wellness and antioxidant support
Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
About Metoprolol
What Is Metoprolol Used For?
Brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL
Metoprolol is used to treat several heart and blood pressure conditions. Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL) are approved for high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain from the heart), and heart failure. Metoprolol tartrate tablets (including Lopressor) are approved for high blood pressure, angina, and — when used alongside intravenous metoprolol — to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death after a definite or suspected heart attack.
Metoprolol tartrate injection (intravenous form) is used in hemodynamically stable patients with a definite or suspected acute heart attack to reduce cardiovascular death, and is followed by oral metoprolol therapy. Lowering blood pressure with metoprolol reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
