Maitake Mushroom and Tadalafil

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Tadalafil and Maitake Mushroom in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Maitake Mushroom safety at a glance

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Tadalafil

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Tadalafil is filed under 5 classifications — including phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors, vasodilators, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Maitake Mushroom has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate), antihypertensive drugs (moderate) and warfarin (coumadin) (moderate) — and none of Tadalafil’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Maitake Mushroom — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Tadalafil’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Tadalafil column appears here.

Overlapping uses

What Tadalafil Is Prescribed For, and What Maitake Mushroom Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Tadalafil is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Maitake Mushroom is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Tadalafil is prescribed for: Tadalafil tablets (including Cialis and generic tadalafil) are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH — an enlarged prostate), or both conditions together. When used with the drug finasteride to start BPH treatment, this combination is recommended for up to 26 weeks. Adcirca, Alyq (tablets), and Tadliq (oral suspension) are indicated specifically for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH — high blood pressure in the lungs), to improve the ability to exercise.

Maitake Mushroom has been studied for:

  • Hypertension studied, not established Maitake Mushroom has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Maitake Mushroom for hypertension

Although there has been interest in using oral maitake mushroom for hypertension, there is insufficient reliable information about the clinical effects of maitake mushroom for this purpose.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Tadalafil on your own; if you are taking Maitake Mushroom for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Tadalafil

This page covers Maitake Mushroom only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Tadalafil page lists 144 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), American Mistletoe (major), Grapefruit (major), Hawthorn (major) and St. John's Wort (major).

By severity: 5 major · 98 moderate · 41 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tadalafil page

“Grapefruit juice is the first thing to know about if you take tadalafil (Cialis, Tadliq). It blocks CYP3A4, the enzyme that clears the drug, so blood levels climb and side effects like a steep drop in blood pressure become more likely.”

About Maitake Mushroom

What is Maitake Mushroom?

Maitake Mushroom
  • Immune support
  • Blood sugar support in diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • General wellness and antioxidant support

Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Grifola frondosa · Meripilaceae · Fruiting body (mushroom) and mycelium; also purified extracts such as the 'D-fraction' · Capsules, tablets, powders, liquid extracts (D-fraction/SX-fraction), and whole mushroom used as food

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Maitake Mushroom is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Maitake Mushroom record says about it on its own.

Maitake Mushroom: dosing

There is no official, well-established dose for maitake supplements. Products vary widely in strength and in how they are prepared, including whole mushroom powders and standardized extracts like the D-fraction.The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and to choose products from reputable brands.
