How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Protease, lipase, and lactase are generally well tolerated in most adults. Rare allergic reactions have been reported to protease — including allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma — mostly in workers exposed to airborne forms.
Lipase can cause digestive upset; people with serious digestive conditions should use it only under medical guidance. Beet root fiber is generally well tolerated, though large amounts could theoretically cause red or black stools (harmless discoloration) or, very rarely, low blood calcium or kidney damage.
For pregnancy: protease safety has not been established and should be avoided unless prescribed; lipase has little safety data, so use only if your doctor advises it; lactase is likely safe; and beet as a food is fine, but concentrated beet supplements lack safety data in pregnancy — talk with your doctor. For breastfeeding: protease and lipase have little data, so medical advice is needed; lactase acts only in the gut and limited data suggests it may be okay, but check with your provider first; beet supplements during breastfeeding also need discussion with your healthcare provider.

Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
