Ultra Probiotics Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by NaturesPlus
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Ultra Probiotics against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Ultra Probiotics by NaturesPlus
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Ultra Probiotics contains 12 active ingredients: several probiotic bacteria strains (Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis, Lactococcus lactis, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, and Lactobacillus sporogenes), fructooligosaccharides (a fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria), and acai concentrate. These probiotics are live microorganisms meant to support your gut health.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients like microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silica, and cellulose as binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product can do is mixed and often limited. Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus sporogenes are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is also possibly effective for Helicobacter pylori infection and bacterial vaginosis. For most of the other conditions the ingredients are marketed for — like allergies, colds, constipation, and diabetes — the evidence we hold is insufficient to say whether they work.
Acai concentrate has insufficient evidence for the conditions it's listed for, including aging skin, athletic performance, and cholesterol.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The probiotics in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. However, since they contain live organisms, people with weakened immune systems should be cautious and check with their doctor first.
The most common side effects from probiotics are mild gastrointestinal ones like bloating, gas, and abdominal discomfort, though these are uncommon in most users. Fructooligosaccharides can cause gas and bloating, especially at higher doses, but clinical trials show doses under 10 grams daily don't increase these effects more than placebo in most people.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe, but data for the other probiotic strains and acai are not on file or limited, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Ultra Probiotics if you're on antibiotic drugs — the antibiotics can reduce how well the probiotics work, so timing matters. If you're on diabetes medications, also verify that acai won't interfere with your blood sugar control.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help if you have IBS or antibiotic-associated diarrhea, though the evidence for most other uses is still being studied. If you take antibiotics, space them several hours apart from this product so the antibiotics don't kill the live cultures.
If you're on diabetes medication or have a weakened immune system, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Ultra Probiotics by NaturesPlus Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Ultra Probiotics by NaturesPlus interacts with antibiotic drugs through its Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, and Lactobacillus sporogenes content.
Antibiotics can kill the live organisms in these probiotic strains, reducing how well they work for you. The product also contains acai concentrate, which may interfere with blood sugar control if you're taking diabetes medications.
Altogether, these interactions span 268 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
With antibiotics, the concern is straightforward: timing matters. Since these probiotics are living organisms, taking them at the same time as an antibiotic means the antibiotic may kill them before they can do their job.
Your doctor or pharmacist can help you space out the timing — typically giving them at least a few hours apart.
With diabetes drugs, acai may raise or lower your fasting blood sugar unpredictably based on early research, which could throw off your blood sugar control. If you're on a diabetes medication and considering this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist first to make sure it won't interfere with how well your medication works.

L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus delbrueckii with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. delbrueckii.
Lactobacillus delbrueckii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. delbrueckii preparations by at least two hours.
Lactobacillus sporogenes
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking antibiotics with Bacillus coagulans might decrease the effectiveness of B. coagulans.
B. coagulans preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. coagulans preparations by at least two hours.
Acai Concentrate
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking acai with antidiabetes drugs might interfere with glycemic control.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy adults has shown that taking acai may increase or decrease levels of fasting blood glucose.
