Telavancin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Acidophilus interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: this interaction runs in the opposite direction from what most people expect. Telavancin is an antibiotic, so it doesn't get weakened by the probiotic. Instead, the probiotic is what takes the hit. Lactobacillus acidophilus is made of live bacteria, and an antibiotic like telavancin is designed to kill bacteria, so taking them too close together can wipe out a good chunk of those friendly organisms before they can do their job.

That said, telavancin is given as an IV infusion in a hospital or clinic, not a pill you swallow, so the timing overlap is less of an everyday concern. This is also a theoretical concern based on how things work, not strong proof. If you're using a probiotic during treatment, ask your pharmacist or doctor about spacing it out.

About Telavancin Injection

What Is Telavancin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Vibativ

Vibativ (telavancin) injection is used to treat two types of serious bacterial infections in adults. The first is complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) — deep or serious skin infections caused by certain gram-positive bacteria, including both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as some Streptococcus and Enterococcus species.

Vibativ is also approved for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus. For pneumonia, Vibativ should only be used when other treatments are not suitable. It is not meant for infections that are not caused by bacteria, and it should only be used when an infection is confirmed or strongly suspected to be bacterial.
