Telavancin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Delbrueckii interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus delbrueckii with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. delbrueckii.
Lactobacillus delbrueckii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. delbrueckii preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the simple version: telavancin (Vibativ) is an antibiotic, and antibiotics don't tell the difference between bad bacteria and the 'friendly' kind in your probiotic. So if you take your Lactobacillus delbrueckii at the same time, the telavancin may kill off a good chunk of those live probiotic organisms before they can do their job. The loser here is the probiotic, not your antibiotic. Telavancin will still work fine against your skin infection or pneumonia.

This is more of a theoretical, common-sense concern than something proven in studies, so don't stress about it. If you want your probiotic to have a fair shot, just space the two apart by at least two hours. And since telavancin is given as an injection for serious infections, check with your pharmacist or doctor about timing.

About Telavancin Injection

What Is Telavancin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Vibativ

Vibativ (telavancin) injection is used to treat two types of serious bacterial infections in adults. The first is complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) — deep or serious skin infections caused by certain gram-positive bacteria, including both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as some Streptococcus and Enterococcus species.

Vibativ is also approved for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus. For pneumonia, Vibativ should only be used when other treatments are not suitable. It is not meant for infections that are not caused by bacteria, and it should only be used when an infection is confirmed or strongly suspected to be bacterial.
