What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Bearberry Leaf Extract, commonly called uva ursi. It's a plant extract traditionally used for urinary tract health.
There are no inactive ingredients listed — you're getting the extract itself.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for uva ursi is limited. For urinary tract infections (UTIs), the data suggests it's possibly ineffective.
For other uses — bronchitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, enlarged prostate) — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. If you're considering this for a specific health concern, talk it over with your doctor to weigh uva ursi against other options with stronger evidence behind them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Uva ursi is generally well tolerated in low doses over the short term. At normal doses, the main side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset.
However, the safety data cautions against long-term or high-dose use — very high doses (20 grams or more of the dried herb) have been reported to cause serious effects like seizures, confusion, shortness of breath, and in rare cases, fatal toxicity. The product itself notes it's meant for short-term use only.
Uva ursi is not safe in pregnancy — it may stimulate the uterus and lacks adequate safety data. There isn't enough information to use it while breastfeeding either.
If you're pregnant or nursing, skip this supplement and talk with your doctor about safer options.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before adding this product, check whether you take any medications metabolized by the liver enzymes CYP2C19 or CYP3A4, drugs cleared through glucuronidation, lithium, urinary acidifying agents, or drugs transported by P-glycoprotein. All carry documented moderate (or in the last case, minor) interaction risk.
Use the interaction checker below with your specific medications, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist if anything flags.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Uva ursi may be worth considering if you're looking to support urinary tract health short-term, though the evidence for UTIs is weak. The bigger concern is medication interactions — this supplement affects a very large number of drugs your liver and kidneys process.
Before you take it, check your medications against the interaction tool on this page, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you. Pregnant or nursing?
Avoid it.

Bearberry Leaf Extract monograph & interactionsUva Ursi (Bearberry Leaf Extract) by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Uva Ursi (Bearberry Leaf Extract) by BulkSupplements.com has documented interactions with multiple medication types.
The most serious concerns are moderate-severity interactions with several drug classes: medications metabolized by the liver enzymes CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, drugs cleared from your body through a process called glucuronidation, lithium (used for bipolar disorder), and urinary acidifying agents. Altogether, these interactions span 804 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 interactions work the same way — uva ursi may slow your liver's ability to clear these drugs, potentially raising their levels in your bloodstream. The glucuronidation interaction is similar: uva ursi appears to interfere with the pathway your body uses to eliminate certain medications.
All three are moderate-severity, though these effects have only been observed in laboratory studies, not yet confirmed in people.
Lithium requires special caution because uva ursi has diuretic (fluid-shedding) properties, and diuretics can cause your kidneys to retain more lithium, raising blood levels and the risk of toxicity. Urinary acidifying agents pose a different problem — they counteract how uva ursi works, potentially rendering the supplement ineffective in the urinary tract.
Finally, a minor interaction exists with drugs transported by a protein called P-glycoprotein; uva ursi may alter their levels, though again this hasn't been reported in humans.
Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page. If any come up, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding uva ursi.

Bearberry Leaf Extract
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, uva ursi may increase levels of drugs metabolized by glucuronidation.
In vitro, uva ursi extract appears to strongly inhibit UDP-glucuronosyltransferase (UGT) 1A1 (UGT1A1). However, uva ursi extract does not appear to inhibit UGT1A1 in animal models. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Lithium
Theoretically, uva ursi may increase lithium levels, necessitating a decrease in dose.
Uva ursi may have diuretic properties. Diuretics may increase lithium reabsorption with sodium in the proximal tubule of the kidney. Theoretically, uva ursi might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Urinary Acidifying Agents
Effects of uva ursi in the urinary tract may be reduced by urinary acidifying agents.
Uva ursi seems to work best in alkaline urine. Theoretically, taking uva ursi with medications known to acidify the urine may decrease any effects of uva ursi on the urinary tract.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, uva ursi may alter the levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.
