Linagliptin falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may alter the levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the short version: linagliptin (Tradjenta) is moved around your body in part by a transporter called P-glycoprotein. In a lab dish, uva ursi seemed to block that transporter a little. If that same thing happened in people, slightly more linagliptin could stay in your system, which in theory might nudge its blood-sugar-lowering effect or side effects (like a stuffy nose or, rarely, low blood sugar if you also take other diabetes meds) up a touch.

The big caveat: this is only test-tube data and has never actually been seen in humans, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Uva ursi is also meant only for short-term use. Still, since you're managing diabetes, it's worth a quick word with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
