What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 at 1500 mcg per capsule. B12 is an essential nutrient your body uses for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis — your body can't make it on its own, so it has to come from food or supplements.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients: dicalcium phosphate and gelatin.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and a rare inherited condition called Imerslund-Grasbeck disease. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence is less certain for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), where B12 is possibly effective — meaning there's some evidence, but we need more research to be confident.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is very well tolerated orally, with no established upper limit — excess amounts are simply removed through your urine. When taken by mouth, serious side effects are rare.
Allergic reactions such as rash or itching are uncommon but possible; in rare cases, people with a cobalt allergy have developed skin reactions to oral B12. B12 is needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is considered safe at recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance on dosing.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, double-check with your pharmacist before adding this supplement — metformin can lower B12 levels, and the interaction is minor but real.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward B12 supplement suited for people with a deficiency or those at risk (like strict vegetarians or older adults). If you take metformin for diabetes, mention this supplement to your pharmacist — it's a minor interaction but worth discussing.
B12 is safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding at normal doses. Check your medications against our interaction tool before you start.
