What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 (5,000 mcg per capsule). B12 is an essential nutrient your body needs for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis.
The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—calcium diphosphate, cellulose, rice flour, silica, and magnesium stearate—which are fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic disorder affecting B12 absorption) and vitamin B12 deficiency itself. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence suggests it may help, though the data is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well-tolerated by mouth, and your body excretes excess amounts in urine, so there's no established upper limit to worry about. Allergic reactions are uncommon but possible—rash, itching, and hives have been reported in rare cases, and theoretically may be linked to the cobalt component of B12.
B12 is safe and actually needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding when taken at normal recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance on dosing.
