Vitamin B12 is generally very well tolerated. Your body removes any excess through your urine, so there's no established upper limit — you can't really overdose on it.

Injection-site reactions are the most common side effect when B12 is given by injection, not orally. Serious side effects are rare; very occasionally, correcting a severe B12 deficiency has been linked to a dangerous drop in potassium (low blood potassium), but this is uncommon.

Allergic reactions like rash or itching are uncommon and may theoretically be related to the cobalt in B12, particularly in people with cobalt sensitivity. B12 is needed in pregnancy and breastfeeding and is considered safe at normal recommended amounts — follow your provider's advice on dosing.
