HelloPharmacist Scorecard of White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is a straight white mulberry leaf extract — one active ingredient, no fillers listed. White mulberry leaf is the dried leaf from the white mulberry tree, concentrated into powder form for easier dosing than whole leaves.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for white mulberry leaf in your system right now is incomplete. Our data rates it as insufficient evidence for hair loss (androgenic alopecia), bone health (osteoporosis), colds, blood sugar control (diabetes), and cholesterol (hyperlipidemia).
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the clinical trials we have aren't strong enough yet to say.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
White mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are digestive: bloating, flatulence, loose stools, and constipation.
In one clinical study, roughly half of participants experienced bloating or gas, about a quarter had loose stools, and one in five had constipation — but these effects tended to ease over time. For pregnancy: the safety data isn't there.
Avoid medicinal amounts during pregnancy. For breastfeeding: same story — not enough data, so avoid medicinal amounts while nursing.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding and want personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications if you take antidiabetes drugs or medications cleared by OCT2 transporters in your kidneys — white mulberry leaf may lower blood sugar or slow how your body clears these drugs. Use the interaction checker below with your exact medication names before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
White mulberry leaf extract may appeal to you if you're looking for a botanical with traditional use in blood sugar support, but the evidence for most health claims is still being built. If you take antidiabetes drugs or certain kidney-transport medications, you need to check with us or your pharmacist first — the blood-sugar-lowering effect is real and could interact.
Pregnant or breastfeeding people should skip it.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com contains one active ingredient — white mulberry leaf extract — which has documented interactions with two drug types.
The most serious concern is with antidiabetes drugs (like metformin, glyburide, or insulin). White mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar, so taking it alongside these medications may increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
You'll want to monitor your glucose levels closely if you're on an antidiabetes drug.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The second interaction involves a specific group of kidney transporters called OCT2 substrates — a technical category that includes metformin and a few other medications. Animal research shows white mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear these drugs, which could raise their levels in your body and cause unwanted effects.
Altogether, these interactions span 86 individual medications.
Because we hold no data on how white mulberry leaf interacts with other medications or supplements you may take, use the search tool below to check your exact medications before you start.

White Mulberry Leaf Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.
