Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

White Mulberry Ultra contains one active ingredient: mulberry leaf extract. Mulberry leaf is derived from the white mulberry plant and has been used traditionally for various health purposes.

The capsules also contain vegetable cellulose as an inactive ingredient.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: weight loss and appetite control with cardiovascular health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Obesity, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, metabolic support, appetite suppression.
  • The closest evidence on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hyperlipidemia (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: White Mulberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hypertension, Obesity.

The evidence for mulberry leaf extract isn't established in the data we hold. The supplement has been studied for androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol, but in each case there's insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works.

That doesn't mean it's ineffective — just that the research isn't conclusive enough for us to say.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. In clinical trials, the most common side effects were bloating and flatulence (50% of participants in one study), loose stools (25%), and constipation (21%) — though these improved over time for some people, suggesting they may be temporary.

The safety data advises against medicinal amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding because there isn't enough research; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity) — mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Also confirm any medications that are OCT2 substrates (Moderate severity), especially metformin, since mulberry leaf may slow their elimination and increase side effects.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Mulberry leaf extract may be worth considering if you're interested in its traditional uses, but the evidence for most claimed benefits isn't solid yet. If you take antidiabetes medications or any drug that relies on OCT2 transport in your kidneys, you'll need to discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist before starting — the interaction risk is real.

Expect possible digestive side effects like bloating or loose stools, especially at first.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulbery Ultra by Thrive Naturals: Common Questions

Does White Mulbery Ultra by Thrive Naturals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulbery Ultra has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulbery Ultra contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take White Mulberry Ultra if I have diabetes?
Not without checking with your doctor first. Mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar on its own, and combining it with diabetes medications could cause your blood sugar to drop too low. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you decide whether it's safe for you and what monitoring you'd need.
What side effects should I expect?
Most side effects are digestive: bloating, flatulence, loose stools, and constipation. These were common in clinical trials but tended to improve over time for some people, so they may be temporary. If they bother you or don't go away, tell your pharmacist.
Is this safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data isn't there. There isn't enough research on concentrated mulberry supplements during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so the data advises against medicinal amounts. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant.
Will this actually help with the conditions it's marketed for?
The evidence isn't established in the data we hold. Mulberry leaf has been studied for hair loss, bone health, cold prevention, diabetes, and cholesterol, but there's insufficient reliable evidence to say it works for any of them. That's why it's a supplement, not a drug.
What's in this besides the active ingredient?
The capsules contain vegetable cellulose as an inactive ingredient to hold everything together. There are no fillers in the sense of large inert bulk — it's a pretty straightforward formula.
