HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Wild Cherry Alcohol Free by Herbal Terra
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has one active ingredient, wild cherry bark extract (dry). Wild cherry is a traditional plant remedy that has been used in cough products.
The label also lists inactive ingredients, glycerin and water, which serve as the liquid base rather than as active components.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Wild cherry has not been shown to work for any of the uses we track. Our data rates the evidence for bronchitis, cancer, the common cold, cough, and diabetes as insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
That means the research we hold is not strong enough to say whether it helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The safety notes say wild cherry is generally considered acceptable in small amounts in commercial cough products. However, the plant contains compounds that can form cyanide, so it should not be used in large amounts.
Large oral amounts can cause cyanide poisoning, which can be fatal. One reported case involved poisoning after eating a large quantity of wild cherries steeped in alcohol.
In pregnancy, the rating is likely unsafe, so the safety data advises against use. For breastfeeding, the safety notes say safety has not been established and advise avoiding use.
The lactation rating field is blank, so talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about your situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check any medication that is a CYP3A4 substrate (a drug broken down by the liver enzyme CYP3A4) before taking this product, since the documented interaction is rated Moderate. The data for this interaction comes from test-tube research and has not been reported in humans.
Your own doctor or pharmacist can review your specific medications with you.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may be of interest to adults looking for a liquid cough product, but the evidence for its uses is not established. Anyone who is pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications that are broken down by CYP3A4 should be especially careful.
Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before using it.

Wild Cherry Alcohol Free by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Wild Cherry Alcohol Free contains wild cherry bark extract, which may interact with medications.
The main concern is with CYP3A4 substrates (drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP3A4), rated Moderate. In test-tube research, wild cherry appears to slow this enzyme, which could raise levels of those drugs in the body.
This has not been reported in humans, so the effect is theoretical.

Wild Cherry Bark Extract, Dry
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
