Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter kit containing daytime and nighttime formulations for cold and flu symptoms. The daytime portion typically contains acetaminophen (a pain reliever and fever reducer), dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), and phenylephrine (a decongestant). The nighttime portion typically adds doxylamine succinate, an antihistamine that also causes drowsiness to help with nighttime symptom relief and sleep. This kit is marketed under FDA's over-the-counter monograph rules for cold and cough products.
