Clinical
Senna is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Senna is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter tablet taken by mouth that combines two ingredients to address constipation. Docusate sodium is a stool softener that is typically used to make stools easier to pass. Sennosides are a natural laxative derived from the senna plant that is commonly used to stimulate bowel movement. Together, these ingredients are meant to provide both softening and stimulant action for occasional constipation relief.
