Clinical
Senna is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Senna is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗Senna-S is an over-the-counter oral tablet containing two active ingredients commonly used together for digestive comfort. Sennosides are a plant-based stimulant laxative typically used to promote bowel movements, while docusate sodium functions as a stool softener that helps ease passage. This combination tablet is marketed under FDA's over-the-counter monograph rules for products in the laxative category.
