Clinical
Senna is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Senna is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗Senna-Plus is an over-the-counter oral tablet containing two active ingredients that work together to support bowel regularity. Sennosides, a natural laxative derived from senna plant material, are typically used to stimulate intestinal contractions and promote bowel movements. Docusate sodium is a stool softener commonly included to help ease passage by increasing water content in the stool. This combination product is marketed as an OTC monograph drug, meaning it follows FDA's established safety and use guidelines for this category.
