Clinical
Senna is used on a short-term basis to treat constipation. It also is used to empty the bowels before surgery and certain medical procedures. Senna is in a class of medications called stimulant laxatives. It works by increasing activity of the intestines to cause a bowel movement.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗Senna-S is an over-the-counter oral tablet that combines two active ingredients commonly used together to support bowel regularity. Sennosides, a natural plant-based stimulant, and docusate sodium, a stool softener, function as a laxative combination. This product is marketed under the FDA's over-the-counter monograph rules for digestive aids rather than as an individually approved drug application.
