Acetaminophen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever. Acetaminophen is in a class of medications called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). It works by changing the way the body senses pain and by cooling the body.
Read the full MedlinePlus article ↗This is an over-the-counter combination kit containing daytime and nighttime cold and flu relief products. The daytime formula includes acetaminophen (a pain reliever and fever reducer), dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant), guaifenesin (an expectorant to help clear mucus), and phenylephrine (a nasal decongestant). The nighttime formula adds doxylamine succinate, a sleep aid. These products are marketed under federal guidelines for over-the-counter cold and flu symptom relief rather than as individually approved medications.
